Biennial ‘Kenmare Lace Festival’ Competition – 2015
Please read the competition schedule and rules carefully before making and submitting your entry.
Section A – Traditional Irish Lace (2D) Entries for this section should be made using any of the traditional techniques listed below. You may use existing patterns, or create your own in the traditional style of your chosen technique. If using an existing pattern, the source must be stated. Lace will be judged on workmanship, presentation, loyalty to tradition, and design (if original). White thread is preferable for this section unless coloured thread is traditionally used. Finished piece must not exceed 50cm x 50cm.
- Needlepoint Lace (Kenmare, Youghal etc.)
- Bobbin Lace
- Traditional Irish Crochet Lace
- Carrickmacross Lace
- Limerick Lace (Tambour/Run)
Section B – Contemporary Lace (2D or 3D) Entries in this section may use a completely original design, or use an existing design (source must be stated). Entrant may use any combination of materials or lace techniques desired. Contemporary entries will be judged on workmanship, presentation, design and originality. 2D pieces must not exceed 50cm x 50cm 3D pieces must not exceed 30cm in any direction.
Section C – Young Lacemaker Open to children aged 17 and under on 19th March 2015 Young lacemakers may choose to make a traditional or contemporary piece of lace. The same details (dimensions etc.) as the above sections A and B will apply but they will be judged separately.
